About the event
The Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon was a great success which inspired Procam to start the Delhi Half Marathon in 2005. It soon became renowned as a prestigious IAAF Gold Label Race, with a number of renowned names including Eliud Kipchoge, Daley Thompson, Jackie-Joyner Kersee, Sir Richard Hadlee, Alan Border, and Cathy Freeman serving as event ambassadors. The Airtel Delhi Half Marathon has since become an elite runner and mass participation event, certified by AIMS and attracting around 35,000 participants to its various races: the half marathon, the Open 10K, Great Delhi Run (6 km), Senior citizens’ Run (2.2 Km) and Champions with Disability (2.2 km). The inaugural edition boasted a prize money of $310,000, with the winners of the men's and women's race taking home $25,000 in 2009. The event has been sponsored by Hutchison Essar and Vodafone Essar in the past, and presently is sponsored by India's largest Telecom company Airtel.
