Brampton, ON – Amid the recent developments surrounding COVID-19, the Brampton Half Marathon, which was scheduled for June 13-14, is now postponed to 2021.
The decision was made with the guidance of Peel Public Health, the Province of Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer and the World Health Organization. The postponement is in the best interests of everyone in an effort to limit and reduce the spread of COVID-19. The rescheduled event will now be taking place June 12-13, 2021.
“This is disappointing news for the participants who have been training for this race,” says Mayor Patrick Brown. “However, your health is important during this pandemic. I hope you will join us next year for the inaugural Brampton Half Marathon.”
All eyes were set on the spring of 2020 to be the inaugural year of the event, organized by Landmark Sport Group, who also manages the Mississauga Marathon and the Oakville Half Marathon. Landmark Sport Group’s first priority is always the safety of its participants, spectators, volunteers, staff and the community.
Participants who have registered for the 2020 event will have their entries deferred to next year’s run.
“We know it’s the right decision,” says Elliott Kerr, Race Chairman and President of Landmark Sport Group. “We all have a role to play in our collective effort to beat the COVID-19 virus. Our way of life will return, and I welcome everyone to join us in 2021. In the meantime, be smart, protect yourself and your family, and we will prevail.”
