ČSOB Bratislava Marathon

This marathon was well organized and had marathon runners running a double loop while half marathoners ran a single loop. It became quite lonely for slow marathoners like myself after the half marathoners had left the course. The weather was cool and there was ample hydration and fueling along the route. The Finisher shirt at the end was a pleasant surprise

Double loop

ČSOB Bratislava Marathon is a run in the heart of the Slovak capital. The route leads through the historic center, the Danube embankment, under the castle and through the city park. The weather in early April is ideal for long run.

Ran in 2015, great temperature to run in, race was particularly flat from what I remember. Only criticism of the route was one long stretch down a dual carriageway where you turned back on yourself. Race wasn't too crowded and not many supporters. Good opportunity to get the distance in early in the calendar.

Nicely organized, good campus before and after run, secured track from public transport, flat course with no up/downhills, attractive race kit. Overall after run sightseeing in Bratislava is pleasant with cuisine and drinks.

Love running through the old town. Organisation could be better for slower runners on 2nd lap and finishers t-shirt was disappointing. Other than that, quite a nice run through the city covering pretty much all the main sights.

Bratislava Marathon leads through the lovely old town and through the shady park at the river of Donube, but also through ugly neighborhoods with construction sites of large office buildings. However, the competition is organized very well. It begins with the luxury that runners can warm up before the start in the new mall of Eurovea. Also, the start is organized in waves with small breaks in between, so that there are not too many runners on the road at one time. Marathon runners have to go two loops of 21,1 km, half marathon runners do only one loop. As the participants have to change to the opposite side of Danube twice each loop, the marathon includes about 100 meters of difference in altitude in total. Do not expect too much applause from spectators. Enjoy the two percussion bands instead, which gave excellent support in 2019.
