Democritus Half Marathon Xanthi

The 'Xanthi Runners', a running club in Xanthi, team up with the Municipality of Xanthi and Eastern Macedonia-Thrace District to organize the Democritus Half Marathon in the land of Orpheus. This race celebrates the great physicist and father of the atom theory, Democritus from Avdera, along with the famous sophist Protagoras and the beloved musician Manos Chatzidakis. It is also a great opportunity to take in the stunning natural beauty, including the Nestos River/Nestos Straits/Nestos Delta, Lake Vistonida, Leivaditis Waterfalls, Haidou and Koula mountains, the archaeological sites of Avdera, the Macedonian Tomb (Komnina), and the traditional settlements of Rodopi and the Old Town of Xanthi.
