Get Outside Mountain Relay (GOMR) is North Carolina’s premier team running relay. 208 miles of challenging and beautiful running in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Teams camp in GOMR Village (campus of the Alleghany Wellness Center) and get shuttle service out to their starting points and back to campus when that leg is complete. Our relaxing and encouraging atmosphere and the innovative Hub and Spoke format make GOMR the can’t miss relay.
The GOMR Ultra 100 will follow the GOMR route for one loop. This is an unsupported ultra except our volunteers will carry drop bags and place them at the 17 Exchanges around the route. We will provide water for refill at the stations.
The GOMR is a 104-mile loop around Alleghany County, NC designed to give runners a taste of our whole community. There are 18 sections to the loop that will be run twice for the GOMR. Run on mostly rural back roads and through the small town of Sparta, you’ll love the breathtaking views at the tops of climbs and the serenity of running with light traffic. Teams will camp in GOMR Village and start from there. Once runners begin, our shuttle system will carry the next runners out to their starting points. When runners finish their leg and pass off the baton (slap bracelet), they will be shuttled back to GOMR Village where they can relax, stretch out, shower, and enjoy time between runs with their team and the larger GOMR Nation.
The GOMR Ultra 50 will follow the same route as the GOMR and Half GOMR, but will cut off and follow it’s own route during Leg #9 and head back to GOMR Village. This is an unsupported ultra, except we will carry and place drop bags for you out to the Exchanges/Aid Stations and bring them back when you’ve passed through.
The Half GOMR is a single loop of the 104-mile course. There are 18 sections to the course and teams can be comprised of 6 or 9 people. Teams of six will run three legs each, where teams of 9 will run two legs each. Teams can either start early Friday morning with the rest of the GOMR field and finish up Friday night. Or teams can start late Friday night and finish Saturday with the rest of the GOMR field.
