Chip Timing Protocol
When you arrive for packet pickup you will be given a bib and a timing chip that corresponds with your bib number. The timing chip with a neoprene strap will be placed on one of your ankles (depending on the finish line antennas you will have to place the timing chip/strap on a specific ankle). During the event, each time you cross the finish line your chip will be read by one of our antennas and recorded by our reader and timing software. Your name will then appear on our timing clock and TV indicating that you have completed a lap. Our timing software will also indicate how many laps (if it is a multiple lap race) you have completed. In the event that someone is not near the timing table and you do not see your name on the list of runners who have recently crossed the finish line please inform one of our staff members. At the conclusion of the event or when you are done running during the timed event please return the timing chip and strap back to the packet pickup area where you found it. This is a self service task and failure to return the chip will result in a $10 replacement fee. Thank you
Knock on Wood Course Description
Course Map HERE – Elevation Per 5 Mile Loop – 450 Feet
The knock on wood ultra course is a 5 mile loop with a single aid station starting point at our park headquarters. The start and finish loop is also located near our aid station, tent area for and cabin rentals. The course has 450 feet of gain per 5 mile loop and is generally wide and rolling. There is shade over 90% of the trail and the park will be closed for our race only! The course will have a series of directional arrows that will be placed at all intersections. Please follow all directional arrows to stay on course. In the event that you make a wrong turn please backtrack to your original spot of confusion. Cutting the course (even if unintentionally will lead to a disqualification
Personal Tent Set Up – Drop Bags
Athletes who are not camping are permitted to have a drop bag or personal tent near the aid station in the open field adjacent to the start/finish line loop outside of fireside hall. Even if it rains. Please be mindful to place your personal belongings off the course as to not impede the runners, the flow of traffic, or other race participants. The start and finish line loop will serve as the official drop bag area designation. When you are finished with your race please “pack in and pack out” making the host facility look better than you found it.
Address
Runners can park at the following address:4232 SC-11, Marietta, SC 29661. There is a short 5 minute walk to the trail headquarters from the parking area. Therefore we will establish a drop off loop for runners to drop off all personal items before parking their vehicles. We will be keeping the park gate open for the duration of this event. We advise all runners to carpool if possible. Packet pickup that morning will also be located there.
Aid Stations
The Aid station will include such items: salt, crackers, cookies, pickles, oranges, water , tailwind, and soda. This is a CUPLESS event as runners are required to have their own hydration carrying bottles or packs. There will be one aid station per the 5 mile loop. We gladly accept aid station donations of food items that you like to see at races. Our staff is very busy with course marking, timing, packet pickup, and communication with runners, that it does make it hard to prepare some amazing tasty treats in-between laps so feel free to contribute a little slice of heaven if you can! Thank you
Eco-Standard
In an effort to be good stewards to mother nature we will not have any of the following items at ANY of our events. This is in an effort to reduce the carbon footprint being placed by endurance events throughout the world. Please have a cup or hydration bottle if you will need to consume water/nutrition during the event. Please bring your own fork/spoon for any post race meals. Please bring your own bags for items collected at the race.
