Memorial Day 10K Run & 2 Mile Walk

For the past 5 years, Lynchburg Road Runners Club and Type 1 Diabetes Experience (T1DE) have hosted this race to provide support for local families living with Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes. It has become a great community and family event. The proceeds from this race have helped with education on diabetes management, nutrition education and cooking demos, community support groups and even camps for children with Type 1 Diabetes. The Memorial Day 10K is the 2nd race in the 2021 Lynchburg Road Runners Race Series.

Our event will follow COVID best practices for road races.

Registration fees are non-transferable & non-refundable. An entry can only be used for the person registered for the entry. Entries cannot be deferred to the following year or a future event.

If the "in-person" events are unable to happen due to COVID mandates or restrictions, participants will automatically be transferred to our Virtual options.

Lynchburg Road Runners Club Member Discount:  A $5.00 discount is available to current Lynchburg Road Runners Club members. Discounts will not be given after 5/02/2021. Participant membership must be current with LRRC membership roster found on RunSignUp. Discount will be given at checkout automatically. Refunds and discounts will not be given after completing online race registration. Please note:  A LRRC discount is valid only for participants whose membership is current on race day (5/28- 5/31/2021). Assisted Participants:
We are pleased to provide an opportunity for assisted participants to enjoy race day. An assisted participant is typically being pushed in a stroller "appropriate" for the event (ie..hand brake, tether, appropriate wheels). Both the participant being pushed and the pusher are required to register for this event. Assisted participants will start prior to the 10K start and be ranked separately from the 10k event. Both the pusher and assisted participant should indicate this classification during the registration process for our planning purposes.

Course: 
The event begins at Riverfront Park just past Depot Grille, goes up 9th Street, turns right on Jefferson Street beside Amazement Square, and proceeds to the Blackwater Bikeway Trail. Once there, stay on the trail and go through the tunnel. When you get to the junction of the four trails, take the Ed Page trail, cross over Blackwater Creek on the foot bridge, and continue on the Ed Page trail to 238 feet past the 0.25 mile marker. Then, turn around, come back down the Ed Page trail to the trail on the right to go back through the tunnel, back to 9th Street, and finally to Depot Grille.

Results:
In-person, 10K results will be available on RunSignUp.com and RiversideRunners.com following the event. Participants can also sign-up for text and email notification during registration.
Please Note:  The 2 MILE WALK is not a timed event.  There are no age group awards or ranking of 2 Mile Walk participants.

Virtual Event participants may report their times via RunSignUp during the participation period of Saturday May 28th - Monday May 31st. Instructions for how to do this will be sent to those registered a week before and will also be found on the event's RunSignUp page. 

10K AWARDS:  
Top 3 Overall M/F; Top Masters (40+) M/F; Top 3 M/F in each age group;  Overall awards ranked on "chip" time / Age group results ranked on "chip" time. 
*This is a Chip timed event, Disposable MyLaps Race Bib Technology will be used.
*Please note:  There are no awards given for the 2 MILE WALK or our Virtual events

10K AGE GROUPS:
12 & under, 13-17, 18-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75 & Over. Age Group ranking based on "chip" time.
*Please note:  There are no awards given for our virtual 10K.

RACE T-SHIRTS:
Moisture-wicking t-shirts or our 10K are gender specific. The 2 Mile Walk shirts are 100% cotton and unisex.  Both are guaranteed to those registered by May 10, 2021. A limited amount of extra shirts are ordered after this deadline and available on a first-come basis at packet pickup.

We are happy to offer the option of having your packet mailed to you. This option is available for an extra fee of $5.00. Participants can select this option during registration. Your mailed packet will include; race bib, race t-shirt, and custom finisher item.  Those choosing this option no later than May 10, 2021 will have their packets mailed prior to race day.  After May 10th there is no guarantee your items will arrive before race day.
