About the event

Come enjoy a ride with Dick Leinenkugel on the beautiful Conover-Phelps Trail or take a road ride on scenic Northwoods roads, and help GHT raise funds for the enhancement and development of eastern Vilas County bike trails.  

All activities start and end at Conover Town Park, 4697 Park Circle, Conover, WI.

Cost of Ride:

Register by June 27, 2024 = $40.00 per person / Register after June 27, 2024 = $50.00 per person

Registration includes bike ride, ride t-shirt*, picnic lunch with Dick Leinenkugel featuring Trig's Smokehouse Brats and Leinenkugel Beer tasting, root beer, or water. Each registered participant gets three free beverage tickets and one lunch ticket.

*We cannot guarantee shirt size if registered after June 27, 2024.

Important Information:

Entry fees are not refundable.

This event will take place rain or shine.

All ages welcome to participate however, must be 21 years of age or older to participate in the beer tasting (valid ID required).

It is strongly recommended that each rider wear a CPSC approved helmet.

The Conover-Phelps Trail surface is a non-motorized, compacted stone trail.

Routes are subject to change due to road construction.

Only cash or check accepted at Conover Town Park day of the ride.

Please note, per town ordinance, dogs are not permitted at the Conover Town Park during special events.

Ride Option Descriptions:

Metric Century Ride - 100k Northwoods Road Ride - Check-in at Conover Town Park begins at 6:45 a.m. Ride departs at 7:30 a.m.  

Riders will depart Conover Town Park at 7:30am and travel west on Hwy K. They will turn north onto Hwy S then make a left turn onto Baker Lake Road and proceed around Stormy Lake to Hwy K. At Hwy K, they will turn right and proceed to West Buckatabon Rd and ride around Buckatabon Lake. Back at Hwy K, they will turn right and travel to Hwy S where they will make a left and travel north to Hwy B where they will turn right and ride into Land O'Lakes. A rest stop with snacks, water, and access to restrooms will be waiting for them at the Land O'Lakes Visitor Center. Following the rest, riders will continue on to Phelps via scenic northwoods roads. A second rest stop will be available at Lakefront Pines Park in Phelps. From Phelps, riders will travel on Hwy K for about 7.5 miles and turn left onto Monheim Road where they will ride to the intersection of Hwy 17 and Monheim, make a U-turn and ride back on Monheim and turn right onto Twin Lake Road. When they reach the intersection of Hwy K and Twin Lake Road, they will turn left onto Hwy K where they will find some challenging hills on the final stretch back to Conover Town Park.

40-Mile Scenic Northwoods Road Ride - Check-in at Conover Town Park begins at 7:30 a.m. Ride departs at 8:30 a.m.  

Riders will depart Conover Town Park at 8:30am and travel west on Hwy K. They will turn north on Hwy S and ride north to Hwy B. At Hwy B, riders will have a choice of either riding on Hwy B into Land O'Lakes or take the paved bike trail that runs parallel to the highway. A rest stop with snacks, water, and access to restrooms will be waiting for them at the Land O'Lakes Visitor Center. Riders will continue on to Phelps via scenic northwoods roads. A second rest stop will be available at Lakefront Pines Park in Phelps. From Phelps, riders will ride back to Conover Town Park where they will encounter some challenging hills on Hwy K.   

20.4-Mile Trail Ride with Dick Leinenkugel - Check-in at Conover Town Park begins at 8:30 a.m. Ride departs at 9:30 a.m.  

Dick Leinenkugel will lead this ride from Conover to Phelps on the Conover-Phelps Trail (C-P Trail). The surface on the first 8.7 miles is called Trailbond which is a packed crushed stone. This first section of the trail is flat as it follows the old railroad grade, crosses bridges over two creeks, and travels through scenic wetlands and woodlands. The final 1.5 miles is paved and hilly as it descends into Phelps. There will be a rest stop at the Lakefront Pines Park at the turn-around point where water, snacks, and bathrooms will be available. After a brief rest, riders will return on the C-P Trail back to Conover Town Park for the picnic lunch, beer tasting, and afternoon festivities.

20-Mile Scenic Northwoods Road Ride - Check-in at Conover Town Park begins at 9:00 a.m. Ride departs at 10:00 a.m.  

Riders will depart Conover Town Park at 10:00am and travel west on Hwy K. They will turn north on Hwy S then make a left turn onto Baker Lake Road and proceed around Stormy Lake to Hwy K. At Hwy K, they will turn right and proceed to West Buckatabon Rd and ride around Buckatabon Lake. Back at Hwy K, they will turn right ride and the final 4 miles back to Conover Town Park where we will gather for the picnic lunch, beer tasting, and afternoon festivities.  

10.4-Mile Trail Ride with Katie Leinenkugel - Check-in at Conover Town Park begins at 9:30a.m. Ride departs at 10:30a.m.  

Cyclists will ride from Conover Town Park on the Conover-Phelps Trail (C-P Trail).  The trail surface is Trailbond which is a packed crushed stone. The terrain is flat as it travels the former bed of the Chicago Northwestern Railroad that once connected Conover and Phelps. Riders will enjoy the scenic wetlands portion of the trail, crossing bridges over two creeks, for 5.2 miles to the marked turn-around point. You may continue further if you so desire, just keep in mind we start serving the picnic lunch at 11:30 and prize drawings start around 12:30 and you must be present at time of drawing to win prizes.
