Course highlights

Salomon Ben Nevis Ultra™ In keeping with the ethos of the Salomon Skyline Scotland® races, this is very challenging skyrunning with considerable height gain, great variability in the terrain including river crossings, and an airy traverse of one of Scotland’s most famous ridges, the Càrn Mòr Dearg Arête, leading to the summit of Ben Nevis. ******************** Salomon Lochaber 80 Trail Ultra This is our wilderness ultra-race weaving a majestic route deep into the remote Highland glens at the heart of Lochaber! The route utilises the best possible trails, paths and tracks for a tour de force of the Lochaber highlands. Gradually ascending from Kinlochleven, the race starts by following the route of the hugely popular Three Mealls 18K trail race in reserve, weaving alongside the River Leven through a magical ancient forest. The mighty Blackwater Dam marks the start of the remote trails to come! From here runners will follow a path that continues climbing to reach Loch Chiarain. Seriously remote terrain lures runners onward and the true wilderness experience of this race becomes apparent with incredible views of nothing but mountains, as they descend towards Loch Treig. For the next 5km the route gently ascends the Lairig Leacach following a historical walking route through this stunning and breathtakingly beautiful glen. The route now turns west following excellent forestry tracks through Leanachan Forest allowing for quick onward progress. Emerging from the forest, the gigantic Ben Nevis looms ahead as the route now follows the renowned North Face path alongside Allt á Mhulilinn up to the famous CIC hut, before cutting under the towering cliffs of Càrn Dearg. Joining the main Ben Nevis path drops the runners down to the Visitors Centre before joining Scotland’s most famous path, the West Highland Way, which climbs out of Glen Nevis and provides a speedy route back to Kinlochleven and a well-earned celebration at the finish line. ******************** Salomon Mamores Stalker Trail Race - 27K This fast and furious 27km trail race packs a mighty punch! We begin with the initial climb from the Ring of Steall® up the West Highland Way path but then quickly plummet again down the super-steep route of the Mamores VK®, enjoying a memorable zig-zagging rocky trail along the way. Runners will then follow the route of the Ben Nevis Ultra® by taking another stunning trail back out of Kinlochleven. The route then follows our 18K Three Mealls™ trail race in reverse as it heads into distant and remote hills before eventually leading to the enormous Blackwater Reservoir on some fun and muddy trails. The final descent via the incredible Ciairan Path weaves through ancient woodland following the river Leven to riotous applause and celebration at the finish in Kinlochleven. The Mamores Stalker is a supercharged test of trail running skill and stamina with steep climbs, technical descents and hugely varied terrain. ******************** Salomon Loch Eilde Mòr Trail Race - 10K It’s a punchy start for this race, as, soon after the streets of Kinlochleven, we head up gnarly braided single and double tracks towards Loch Eilde Mòr and start this clockwise route on hilly trails. (Look back at the view too – straight across Loch Leven – a classic view and a stunning memory for this route). Nearing the Loch, the route crosses the intake to follow the iconic pipe that carries water to the immense Blackwater Reservoir, however, there is an earlier point at which you take a sharp right and an equally sharp zig-zag descent, to dive into the lush woodland beside River Leven far below. Known as the Ciaran Path, this glen trail gradually descends for 2.5km until back near sea level, where it’s a short dash into the edge of Kinlochleven to reach the buzz at the finish line.
