Sawyer's Race for Research

In 2021, Sawyer Burch was diagnosed with a life threatening rare metabolic disorder called Trifunctional Protein deficiency. There are currently less than 100 documented cases of TFP patients world wide, with the oldest patient being only in their mid 20s. These patients’ only hope for a long life is for continued research. However, due to lack of funding and the rarity of TFP, specialists are unable to continue research even though the clinical research is very promising! In the last couple of years, any extra research funding has gone to COVID research decreasing the opportunity even more for research progress. Last year with Sawyer’s Race for Research, we raised $70,000!! OUR DONATIONS alone helped the metabolic research team at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh to be able to move forward with their current research into clinical trialsl! By God’s providence, the specific medication they have been working on is one that could directly help one of Sawyer’s biggest sources of daily struggle, neuropathy. YOUR donations made that advancement. TFP patients' lives are “on hold” when they need research to help them live longer. YOU made a difference last year, let’s continue to make a difference and gives these kids a chance to live a long life!  Join us July 23-24 for a 5k race to support Sawyer Burch and Trifunctional Protein Deficiency research. 100% of proceeds will go towards funding TFP research for Dr. Vockley and his team at UMPC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh to help children fighting this disease. You can support Sawyer by donating and or participating in the 5k in person on July 23rd at 8 am at the Potter Gray Elementary Pavilion or virtually at any time and any place on July 23 or 24. We hope you’ll walk or run with us then!
