Event Details:
Join us for our 6th annual Snap to a Cure 5k and 1 mile fun run. This year Snap Fitness of Maurice will be teaming up with the late David Hardy and his family. David was an amazing person and police officer in our community. Please join us to celebrate his life. If your not a runner, not a problem. Our 1 mile walk/run is not officially timed and will take place on the NVHS track. If you like to walk one lap or all four, you choose. Kids and strollers are encouraged.
Don't forget to bring that extra cash; we will have local vendors selling their products after the race! Food and drinks will be provided.
After the mile, the 5k will begin. We will start on the track and then run down the street's of Maurice to finally finish with the cheer's of the NVHS crowd. If you are unable to attend, but still like to donate, please consider our virtual option. This way, you will still get your race shirt and if times are sent in, medal.
David Hardy was a retired Lieutenant with the City of Abbeville’s Police Department. He began his career on December 11, 1989 at the age of 21 until his retirement on September 13, 2019. Throughout his career he became a mentor, a father figure, a brother in blue and always someone you could depend on. David devoted 30 years of his life to protect and serve his community and did so in an honorable fashion. The only position David did not hold at the police department was that of Chief. There was not a job or task at hand he could not accomplish. Matter of fact, when David retired, he held 5 jobs at the department. Quite possibly the only reason for him retiring was to spend as much of his remaining time with his family and friends.
In March 2018, David received the devastating news of his cancer diagnosis of Mesothelioma. He knew his time was limited as there was no known cure for “his” disease. David went through many rounds of chemotherapy treatments, immunotherapy, clinical trial drugs and radiation treatments until all hopes were exhausted. He fought a hard and valiant battle for three years until his death on March 4, 2021 at home surrounded by his family.
David leaves behind his wife Kelly Hardy, daughter Halle, sons Chase (Jenna) and Layne Hardy and Jared and Ethan Langley along with grandchildren Grayson Hardy and Sophia Chauvin.
Money raised from this event will go towards the Levy Cancer Foundation in Memory of David and the David Hardy Scholarship.
Music provided by DJ Francis of Route 92
