TALIHARJA VANAKURI is a 101 km winter ultra endurance trail race (or 55km “pehmo” version or 125km extended version “Sõge sõõr”) mostly in darkness through Estonian wilderness. Race runs on snowy/icy/muddy small roads, trails. Race can be done either on foot, on skis or by bike. Race course is not marked. Competitors must carry map and GPS and mandatory safety equipment and be self sufficient. Race course crosses vast forests and bogs and offers complete solitude and immersion in the tough terrain. Sun sets 15.49 and light fades at 16.49 so a big portion of the race course will be completed in darkness! There is plenty of wildlife like moose, elk, foxes & bears, who will hopefully be sleeping though.
Anybody who wants to participate in this race, must have the common sense to familiarize oneself about all the needs to face a competition like that. Racers must be self-sufficient and have the ability to take care of themselves. This race is a potentially dangerous one, participants have to really seriously consider if they are physically and mentally prepared for this kind of race.
Course runs on small roads and trails through vast forested areas and bogs to Holstre-Polli center. There is one midcamp aid station at 45km and some drinking points shown on map.
Race starts from Rutu hills campsite and runs through scarcely inhabited rural areas to Holstre-Polli ski center.
