About the event
TALIHARJA VANAKURI is a 101 km winter ultra endurance race, mainly done in the dark, through the bogs and forests of Northern Estonia. The race can be completed either on foot, on skis or by bike, and most of the course will be done in the dark as the sun sets at 15:39 and light fades at 16:32. The race course is roughly 101 km long, and the exact route can be found at https://www.plotaroute.com/route/1216572. There is also the option to partake in the "Pehmo" version of the race, in which the participant finishes at the mid-camp, which is 51 km away. The Race Center/Finish is in Aegviidu village (https://goo.gl/maps/USV9AKiCEbQJkzwX7), and the Start is located at Hara Soviet Submarine Base, Kuusalu parrish (https://goo.gl/maps/CR9Yo5UnX67xw3r39). The Midcamp/Finish for the "Pehmo" course is at the Viitna Holiday Center sauna-building (https://goo.gl/maps/PCfahCZW4CNhjW8d7). The race will begin at 12:00 h on Saturday, January 9th, 2021, and will finish no later than 12:00 h on Sunday, January 10th, 2021. Registration opens on 01.11.2020 and closes on 04.01.2021. The cost to register is 45 eur until 30.11.2020, 55 eur from 01.12.2020 to 31.12.2020, and 65 eur after 01.01.2021. Entry includes transport to the start, race maps, race number, GPS tracking, food, facilities at the finish, finisher prize and diploma, snacks and warm drink at midcamp, and transport of one bag from start to finish.Participants must be a minimum of 18 years old and must have previous experience in ultra racing (ultrarunning, adventure race, rogaining). The race director reserves the right to refuse entry to any racer not experienced enough. In case a participant cancels their registration before the 20.12.2020, half of the race fee will be returned. After that, there will be no refunds, although the entry can be transferred to another approved racer until 31.12.2020.In order to participate, all racers must have the common sense to familiarize themselves with all the needs to face a competition like that and must be self-sufficient and able to take care of themselves. Mandatory gear includes a sleeping bag/bivy bag/insulated jacket, sleeping pad, emergency foil blanket, fire starting device, headlamp, rear red flashing lamp, reflective patches, whistle, phone, water container, food, and a GPS device with the saved route. The maximum time allowed to complete the race is 24 hours, and the cut-off time at midcamp is 10 hours from the start.In the case of an evacuation, the cost will be at the racer's expense. All participants will be tracked live with a GPS tracking device provided by the organization. Prizes will be given to all finishers, and the race may be canceled before or after the start in case of extreme weather conditions.
