The course is flat and visits many of Amsterdam's Highlights. It starts and finishes at the 1928 Olympic Stadium. Fro the Stadium it enters to the Vondelpark, runs along the Rijksmuseum, follows the Amstel river on both sides while live music is played on boats, reaches the Maritime Museum, the historic canals, and gets back to Vondelpark before finishing inside the Olympic Stadium.

Exiting as it was my first official run. Nice route passing though Vondelpark. There was a crossroad where 8k and 42k were splitting and it created some confusion. The marking was not really clear at least for someone that took part of the run.

The bits through Overamstel and Duivendrecht are somewhat desolate, but the last kms along Stadhouderskade, through the Vondelpark and finishing in the Olympic Stadium are unforgettable!

Great marathon, excellently organized, there were volunteers and cheerleaders all the way (42.2), music, good energies, good weather, flat. Just great.

In one word - Fantastic. The route was very good and flat. The finish in the Olympic stadium was amazing. It was perfectly organized - very good services and good refreshment stations. Great support from the cheerful crowds. Perfect weather. I have been there for half and I will go again for a full marathon.

The only marathon where you can smell weed along the way (joke). Fantastic marathon, nice flat route with all sorts going on to watch and a great crowd cheering you on.

Pro: fast track, fantastic start and finish area (Olympic stadium), very well organized, good services, good refreshment stations, perfect weather (2018) Con: 8-10 kilometers are very narrow.

One of my favorites manathons so far. So unique to run this course - you will run under the Rijksmuseum and then around the city and peaceful contryside. I enjoyed finith at the olympic statiom very much! Organisation is great, but be aware thath there are n ochangings rooms, but is was not a problem for me - I got to the starting place in my running gear and just some warm clothes, which I discarded as soon as I started to run.

Flat, very nice

Being from Rotterdam, running the Amsterdam Marathon is always controversial haha. But when a dear friend invited me to run the Amsterdam Marathon with her just for fun ... a couple of weeks after running the Berlin Marathon I thought .... well ... why not? No pressure to run a PR and finally experience first hand how it compares to Rotterdam. On race day, marathon runners can deposit their bag next to the Olympic Stadium. They start on the track within the stadium itself and that's a really nice experience. The course itself wasn't all that bad but it's a bit crowded along the Amstel River for about 11.5 kilometers and there are far, far less spectators compared to for example Rotterdam. For some reason this marathon seems to be very international. Maybe because there are a lot of expats in and around Amsterdam or because ... well ... it's the reputation Amsterdam has amongst foreigners ;-). Anyway, start and finish in the Olympic Stadium is great. Same goes for the Vondelpark and passing the Rijksmuseum in the beginning of the race. It is not a bucket list marathon in my opinion but for me it was a good overall experience.

Great race. Beautiful city. Well organized. The route is flat. Cheerful crowds at the end, in the olympic stadium. And....The medal is ugly :)

Well, as this is my hometown marathon I ran it six times so far (2008, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2017). Incredible fast and flat course and most of the times perfect weather conditions. Start is in the Olympic Stadium and gives you shivers all over. I like the parts through the famous Vondelpark (twice), the passage underneath the Rijksmuseum, the 10k along the Amstel river (you'll pass two windmills and see some typical Dutch landscape) and the finish in the stadium. The people of Amsterdam are getting used to the marathon. They are not the best crowd you could wish for, but we're getting there. It just hard when you stand between people form Amsterdam and their biking habits ;) Biggest downside of the Amsterdam Marathon is the medal, which is really not what one of the most popular marathons in the world should give to their finishers. Seems like it's getting cheaper every single time. Most of the other marathons I ran so far have invested in a more appealing marathon medal. Even the smaller European capitals.

I ran 3 times in the half marathon in Amsterdam. The atmosphere of the competition is incredible, the fans, musicians and DJs help a lot in this. The organization is good, but due to the huge number of starters, it takes 30-40 minutes from the time the starting gun goes off to reach the finish line (I wasn't standing at the very back). The medal is nicely finished, but it has looked the same for years, the makers could be a little more creative. Do you have to buy a t-shirt separately, which I think could easily be included in the entry fee?! IAAF Platinum Label certification is available at several refreshment points for iso gel, an isotonic drink. I had no water during the race!! Running into the Olympic stadium is a great experience, but running on the tram tracks in the city center is dangerous (I saw someone who fell on his face, unfortunately) Even though there are separate people for who should enter which zone, everyone announces their average pace based on their own assessment. Which is not even close to what many people are able to accomplish over 21 km, which is everyone's private matter, BUT that's why the first 2-3 km are all about dodging and avoiding. Because someone didn't come for a running race, but for a city tour and keeps this pace. That is, he walks in front of you talking, looking, taking pictures. I say to these people: go back and let the other runners go. János from Hungary
