A New Unique Cross Country 5K Run in Anderson, SC!

This new event is being brought to you by Friends of Boys State (FOBS), Anderson University, and local sponsors in an effort to support scholarships and program elements for Palmetto Boys State, the premier leadership program in the Nation.

Our Run will take place at the Anderson University Sports Complex on Saturday morning, June 8th, 2024, and will feature a unique cross country course in and around AU's athletic training facilities. The race course will consist mostly of natural surfaces (and at times uneven ground) and will also include paved areas, one track loop, and a Start/Finish in Anderson University's newly updated Trojan Football Stadium!

Many local Runners have participated in our organization's previous events known as the Run To Remember: CPT David Hortman 5K, The Hortman 5K, Dave's Run, and also as The FOBS 5K. Our event began in June 2012 following the passing of our Friend and Fellow Boys State Staff Member, Dave Hortman. Dave served our Country in so many ways and was one of the Army's most distinguished elite helicopter pilots. A decorated U.S. Army Captain, Dave challenged others to live life to the fullest, to be physically fit, and to find ways to support the leadership program that he loved and served, Palmetto Boys State. Dave's legacy continues to inspire us today.

You are invited to join in the effort to support Palmetto Boys State! Event prizes will be awarded for both Male and Female participants in many age groups as well as a Team Award for the Largest Group affiliation. Also, as is our tradition, a performance T-Shirt will be included with your Run registration.
