Yes!  You made it!  This is the second annual Valley Road Ride in Bedford, VA!  We are a new road event with a new event-day team, so the bags of swag that have become associated with gran fondos will be limited!  But you can be proud in knowing that you'll be participating in a long line of annual road rides throughout The Great Bedford Valley.  Let the amazing stories and memories begin!  

A GOOD DAY CYCLING FOUNDATION

This 501c3 was created in 2023 to help benefit junior cyclists through camps, education and travel grants. Proceeds from The Great Bedford Valley Road Ride and associated events will be used to make sure more juniors will have a good day!

Bedford, VA is located where the Piedmont Plateau dances with the Blue Ridge Mountains. It’s between the cities of Lynchburg and Roanoke, yet it retains its authentic rural beauty and charm.

Starting and ending at Falling Creek Park, the Great Bedford Valley Road Ride (GBVRR) is a group of supported cycling routes meant to highlight the gorgeous mountain views and pastoral scenes of Bedford County, Virginia.

ABOUT THE PRESENTING SPONSOR

Destination Bedford is the umbrella organization for the Bedford County Department of Tourism.  Housed in the Bedford County Welcome Center, the building includes spectacular views of the Peaks of Otter and National D-Day Memorial. Exhibits within the Welcome Center showcase the area’s many attractions and amenities. There is also a gift store, free Wi-Fi, firefighter exhibit, and small theater. A community room provides meeting space for businesses and organizations on a rental basis.

Exterior features include covered porches, rocking chairs, a picnic area, and a LOVE sign, which is a great photo opportunity for anyone visiting or living in Bedford!

The building is fully accessible and parking spaces are provided for motor coaches and campers. RV hook-ups are available and there is an electric car charging station.

ABOUT THE ORGANIZER

Bedford resident Lee Sandstead fell in love with the roads of Bedford County in 2013 when he first came to ride up to the Peaks of Otter along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Lee continued to ride on these roads until moving to Bedford permanently in 2018 to pursue a career in cycling and endurance coaching.

It wasn't until Lee moved to Bedford permanently that he realized that the key to Bedford's beauty is not in the mountains, but in the valleys.

Since 2018, Lee has brought hundreds of cycling enthusiasts to ride these roads and has ridden over 30,000 miles in the Great Bedford Valley.

It has been Lee's life-long dream to create a cycling event for the South East and Mid-Atlantic, and now that he has his own event team in place, the stars are in alignment.

For Lee and the team, this is a year-after-year, long-term proposition. Something that cyclists can not only participate in, but be proud.
