About the event

Let's Run!

Join us Saturday, March 11, 2023 for a 5K and children's fun run in the beautiful City of Alpharetta.  We are excited to kick off this event for the first time to support Wafa House, Inc. Run a new route, get a course record and celebrate with friends! Both the 5K race and Fun Run start in front of the ADP of Alpharetta complex, 5800 Windward Pkwy, Alpharetta, GA 30005 and finish in the same area. Get pumped up with pre-race music and hang around after for the awards to our top finishers.

Why We Run?

This Wafa House, Inc. is a registered 501 c 3 not for profit human services organization, specializing in domestic violence prevention. The agency’s mission is to strengthen and preserve the family unit through intervention and education. We endeavor to empower each member of the family and strive to provide a range of services to ensure successful attainment of our mission. Please see attached a list of services that are provided to anyone/everyone free of charge and in complete confidence irrespective of their ethnicity, socio-economic background, gender or creed.

Wafa House was the conception and realization of Dorria Fahmy who is the founder of the agency. Ms. Fahmy recruited and joined forces with a dear friend by the name of Nawal Kahf, the co-founder of Wafa House, and together they approached Dr. Mohammad Qatanani, the Imam, (chief cleric) of the largest Islamic center in North East New Jersey, the Islamic Center of Passaic County. Dr. Qatanani instantly lobbied to raise awareness and assisted in forming what initially was named WAFA House (Women Against Family Abuse) and in December 2004 the agency opened its doors to the community. As the agency has expanded the services it provides the mission has too been revised and as a result the acronym has now been revised to the word Wafa, meaning gratefulness in Arabic.
Wafa House is proud to have under its employment exceptional staff with the knowledge, skill set and credentials to enable the agency to provide a high caliber of services to each and every client. Dr. Nasim Jadoon and Wijdan Abdallah are the agency’s clinical staff. Dr. Jadoon comes to us with a doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Hofstra University and four Master’s, one in Clinical and School Psychology also from Hofstra University, the second in Cross-Cultural Psychology from Columbia University, the third in Cross-Cultural Counseling also from Columbia University and the fourth she earned in Psychology from Peshawar University in Pakistan. Wijdan Abdallah joins us with a Master’s in Educational Psychology concentration on Child/Adolescent Clinical Psychology. Thus far Wafa House has served over to 3,500 unduplicated clients nationwide, as well as some residing in the Middle East, Egypt, Canada and the United Kingdom.

Wafa House is registered under the National Diaper Bank Network, (NDBN). One of our highest achievements to date is the operation of our diaper bank, which is now into its third year. Families with low income or no income cannot afford one of the most important and necessary items on their monthly expenses list and as a result families are left to make the harsh choice between food and diapers for their babies. Many families do not have enough financial means to cook two healthy meals to place on their tables each day. Irrespective of where a person resides they are within a short distance of a neighbor or community member who is struggling financially to keep a roof over their heads, and their families clothed and fed.

Among its accomplishments thus far, the agency has also been responsible for the reunification of children with their biological parents. The Department of Children and Families, the Division of Child Protection and Permanency refers clients whose children have been removed from the home and requests Wafa House to provide counseling services to the parents, in addition to effective parenting skills.
