About the event
The Westman Islands used to have fewer tourists than the rest of Iceland, but now with the new harbour in Landeyjarhofn it is only a half hour ferry ride from the mainland and is fast becoming the hottest spot in Iceland.
The race shows the beauty of the Islands. The courses are hilly but stunningly beautiful. After the race a trip to the swimming pool is a must and there are many things to do and see around the islands.
The Westman Islands ("Pompeii of the North") are famous for the eruption in 1973 from the Eldfell (Fire Mountain) volcano that destroyed half of the Heimaey town and there are reminders everywhere on the Island of this historic event
