Hoad Hill Marathon & Half Marathon

Both the Marathon and Half Marathon will start and finish at Ford Park. Both routes head through Ulverston Town to pick up the Cumbria Way trail at The Gill before heading south via Pennington. The routes pass Skelmore Heads hillfort, through Great Urswick to head over to climb Birkrigg Common. From the top of the common you’ll be rewarded with stunning views over the South Lakes and Morecambe Bay, with the Sir John Barrow monument at Hoad Hill ever present on the horizon. Descend to follow the Cumbria Coastal Way northwards next to the beach to then head inland to reach the Ulverston Canal towpath and eventually Hoad Hill itself. A final climb to the iconic monument on top of Hoad Hill then head northwards to Lowick High Common and the wind turbines, looping back with fantastic views over the Bay and the finish via the old Ulverston coach road.

Hoad Hill Half Marathon follows a mixture of trail, coastal path, canal towpath and quiet country lanes giving stunning views of the beautiful South Lakes and Morecambe Bay. The route starts and finishes at Ford Park, Ulverston with an inevitable climb to the iconic Sir John Barrow monument on top of Hoad Hill.
