The biggest sporting event organized by the municipality of Grândola will take place this year on July 7, 2024. The beaches on the Atlantic front host another edition of the Ultra Marathon Atlântica, covering a length of 43 km, which connects Melides beach to Bico das Lulas beach in Tróia. The Ultra Marathon is a test of adventure and physical and psychological endurance that offers a unique experience to athletes who participate every year , or to those who are debuting in the race. This competition is different from other existing long-distance races, as it takes place on sandy ground and is situated between the Atlantic front and the Serra da Arrábida, which provides a setting of great beauty for the hundreds of athletes who participate. The Atlantic Race, which has been taking place since 2014, allows you to practice running on sand, however over a distance of less than 15 km, between Comporta beach and Bico das Lulas beach in Tróia.

Very much fun in the routes
One of the best ultra marathon i ever been in to.
Bery much fun it was
The actual run [15k] itself was a great time! It was my first experience running on sand, and I was a bit nervous about it, but in the end it was (literally) a relaxing and peaceful run on the beach. I appreciated the efforts to reduce waste along the course. On the other hand, the kit pickup process was perhaps not as well-organized as it could have been, and the information posted on the website - especially in English - was very confusing and incomplete, with really bad translations. Fortunately, I was able to communicate with some volunteers through the race Facebook page, and they were able to help me out with certain logistics queries. Lastly, the addition of a beer tent at the finish would really make the event close to perfect. All in all a great experience!
