The TBK Bank Quad Cities Marathon has announced plans to offer a virtual event in 2020, with opportunities to participate in the month of September.
Race officials have reviewed best practices from the CDC (Center for Disease Control) and from the WHO (World Health Organization). The team also consulted with local officials and healthcare providers. Based on recommendations and feedback, the race Board of Directors decided the virtual option would be the best decision to ensure health and safety within our race community during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“This is the best decision for our specific event due to the very large crowd at the starting line and at the post race party,” Moreno said. “Also, our event requires months of planning and we would not be able to make this decision any later than we are right now.”
The virtual QCM will offer a Marathon, Half Marathon, 5K, 1-Mile, and Kids Run. Participants will have from Sept. 1 until Sept. 27 to submit finish times to be posted in the final results. Participants will receive shirts, finish medals, race bib, and packet. The 2020 race will not offer prize money for elite runners, overall awards, or age group awards.
Race officials have planned a fun 2-day “drive through” packet pickup at the East Moline race headquarters. The packet pickup will include sponsor recognition.
Other new plans for 2020 include a revised race website and new merchandise, as well as continuation of the Brew Star Series, QC Coaster Challenge, and Training Program.
