Lama Sherpa and Andreja Sterle are crowned Champions of the 2016 Everest Trail Race

Lukla, 15 Nov. 2016. The Nepalese runner Pasang Lama Sherpa (ADEAVENTURA/ANNAPURNA TREKS) has got the consecutive forth stage victory and has signed the final victory in the sixth edition of the Everest Trail Race by The Elements Pure Coconut Water.

The Spanish runner Miquel Capó (COMPRESSPORT) is second placed in the overall standings and the Scottish Casey Morgan –Capó’s teammate in COMPRESSPORT- is third after 6 stages, covering 160km of distance and 30000m of total elevation gain in the Nepal Himalayas.

The race is a test for both runners and the race organization as the area is only accessible by foot. Participants must carry the personal technical equipment they need to survive (minimum 3,5kg) but snacks, meals and water are provided both along the route and in the camp at the end of each stage.

The race is considered one of the toughest staged mountain races in the Planet with breath-taking views of several of the world’s tallest mountains.

In the women’s category, the Slovenian Andreja Sterle (RIHTAR SVAROG) has ran a great race. She is the winner of 2016 edition after having won her fourth consecutive stage today. Tears and emotions in the Lukla finish line. After six days of effort, cold temperatures and mental and physical stress, crossing the finish line has been the biggest of the rewards, not only for champions but to each and every finisher.

It has been very moving the embraces and kisses among members of the great family formed by runners and organization staff as well as the appreciation to the race organization for all the support and great care provided. Some of the runners have entered the daily finish line in the limit time after 11 or 12 hours run.

Walking after them, always a medical team, two controllers and six members of Sherpa staff taking care of them.

The race is over. Tomorrow the participants will fly from Lukla back to Kathmandu and will be returning home next Friday. As days pass they will begin assimilating and understanding the scope of the great adventure they have lived.
