§staticmap(9456,5,450,250)Hello, on May 14th 2011, you’ll be organizing the MAD Marathon. Can you tell us where it is located?
The M.A.D. Marathon is located in Idaho Falls, Idaho, USA
How old is the race and why was it created in the first place?
This is our inaugural year.
The M.A.D. Marathon was created to help people Make A Difference which is what M.A.D. stands for.
Making a difference in their own lives to run in our marathon, and in turn raising funds for the hearing impaired men, women and children in the world through the Olive Osmond Perpetual Hearing Fund.
What kind of route have you set up for the runners? How would you describe it?
The route is geared specifically for beginners, it is a relatively flat run. You run through the farms and fields of North West Idaho Falls.
Gorgeous scenery and amazing views.
How many runners do you expect on Saturday morning? What type of runners do you plan to attract?
We are anticipating several hundred runners for our inaugural event. We plan on attracting beginners and locals.
Do you organize other races during the Week-End? If so, on what distances?
Along with the marathon, we have a half marathon, a 10K an a 5K race.
At that time of the year, what kind of weather can we expect?
This is late spring, so we are anticipating perfect running weather. Not too hot and hopefully not too cool.
Have you planned festivities around the marathon?
We have an entire weekend of festivities starting off with a VIP dinner, concert of the lead singer of The Osmonds, Merrill Osmond. Then we will have the run!
The race finished, what advice would you give a runner who has never been to Idaho Falls before? A good restaurant, a fancy sightseeing?
Definitely the view of the Snake river and water falls that gives Idaho Falls its name.
Restaurants, I would recommend The Cellar and Whitewater Grill. Both excellent and top class food.
In a single sentence, what would you tell the readers of ahotu Marathons to make them register for the MAD Marathon?
This run not only makes a difference for the runners by offering them a view and run like no other. It also makes a difference in the lives of those that are affected by hearing loss and changes their lives in SO many ways.
Interview with Lezhai Gulbransen
“My journey to organizing a marathon began when I had let my health go. I decided to run a marathon. It changed my life. Not only my health, but my outlook. I knew I could accomplish anything. I wanted everyone to experience what I have.”
