This will be the 40th edition of the race. Why was it created in the first place?
This event started in another part of Shelburne County, by a runner who wanted to stage this event, but due to heat problems it’s location moved to Barrington Passage, where the air is cooler, as we are located very near to the Atlantic Ocean.
What kind of route have you set up for the runners? How would you describe it?
For most part of the full marathon, the route is in the shape of a figure eight, the half marathon makes half of the figure eight. The route takes you through coastal communities.
How many runners do you expect on Sunday morning? What type of runners do you plan to attract?
Our event is very small compared to many event out there. But that is a plus to many as they appreciate not rubbing elbows with the other participants. Last year, we attracted 145 runners.
Do you organize other races during the Week-End? If so, on what distances?
The Barrington Recreation Department does not organize other races during the weekend.
At that time of the year, what kind of weather can we expect?
The event takes place every 4th Sunday in July. We usually brag about our fog and damp air, but we have also experienced a warm sun!
Have you planned festivities around the marathon?
The Barrington Recreation Department has a awards banquet following the event. Medals, fun prizes and fish chowder are enjoyed by all.
The marathon finished, what advice would you give a runner who has never been to Barrington before? A good restaurant, a fancy sightseeing?
Because we are a coastal community, we have many ‘nicks and crannies’ to explore – fishing boats, lighthouses, local museum (UF0 Museum to mention one), sandy beaches, slow pace of life!
In a single sentence, what would you tell the readers of ahotu Marathons to make them register for the Nova Scotia Marathon?
Our marathon is a small marathon compared to many of them, you will have lots of elbow room! It will give you a chance to meet other runners.
