John Kipkorir Komen secured second with a time of 2:11:58. Oukhrid Lhoussaine (2:12:04) rounded out the top three. For the women, it was Priscah Jepleting Cherono (2:31:34) coming in first. Three Kenyan runners took the leading places in the marathon. Asbel Kipsang won the race with a time of 02:09:55, followed by Levy Matebo Omari (02:10:20) and William Kibor (02:15:20). In the women’s race the victory went to Ethiopia’s Ehite Bizuayehu Gebireyes with a time of 02:31:28. She managed to pull away from two Kenyan runners who took second and third places: Grace Kwamboka Momanyi (02:35:04) and Lucy Wambui Murigi (02:40:02). This is Gebireyes’s 5th consecutive victory in Florence! 8,716 runners finished the race, but unfortunately, the organizers had to report that one participant died during the event.
