At the end of the 245.3 km race that links Athens to Sparta, Portuguese runner Joao Olivera, crossed the finish line of the 31st edition of the Spartathlon":https://marathons.ahotu.com/event/spartathlon in 23 hours 29 minutes and 8 seconds.
Joao was two hours ahead of the two German runners Florian Reus (25:29:54.) and Stu Thoms who had won the race last year (25:54:49).
This year 321 runners coming from 35 different countries took part in the race, including 32 women.
The first female runner was Szilvia Lubics of Hungary in 28:03.04. She was 12th overall.
