Jornet journeys 100 miles in less than 24 hours

Kilian Jornet came, saw and conquered for a second straight year at the Hardrock 100 Ultra-Marathon in Silverton, Colorado.
The only one of 126 runners to complete the 100-mile course in less than 24 hours, Jornet defended his 2014 title with a time of 23:28:10, breaking the ‘clockwise’ record of 24:25:50 in the process.

Ran in alternating directions each year, Jornet already holds the course and “counter-clockwise” records which he set last year with a time of 22:41:33.
Jornet’s win at this year’s event, comes less than a week after finishing first at the Mount Marathon in Seward, Alaska.

The run which starts and ends in Silverton, passing through the towns of Telluride and Ouray along the way, climbs 33,992 feet in elevation through the San Juan Mountain Range.
In order to complete the event, which has been run every year since 1992, except for in 1995 (snow) and 2002 (fire), runners are required to “kiss the Hardrock”…a picture of a ram’s head painted on a large block of stone mining debris.

Runner-up Mike Foote, the only other participant to finish under 26 hours, made it in at 25:45:13.
Similar to Jornet, Adam Campbell also repeated in his placing from a year ago, finishing third with a time of 25:45:13.
Going counter-clockwise in 2014, Campbell finished more than 11 and a half minutes slower, coming in at 25:56:46.
In the women’s race, Anna Frost (28:22:47) outlasted Darcy Piceu (28:57:07) to finish first.
Darla Askew rounded out the top three with a time of 32:05:49.
