Half Marathon results
Last year’s runner-up Mark Hess (1:09:39.22) cut two minutes from his 2014 time to win this year’s running of the Newport Liberty Half Marathon in Jersey City, New Jersey.
Nearly 2,100 runners completed the USATF certified course which works its way along the Hudson River and through Liberty State Park and includes views of Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.
Stephen Mennitt took second with a time of 1:10:49.24.
He finished third in 2013.
Daniel Nijeri (1:11:58.89) rounded out the top three.
For the women, it was Roberta Groner (1:19:29.00) cutting more than five minutes from her fourth-place finish a year ago, to take the top spot.
Angela Ortiz earned runner-up honors with a time of 1:20:37.96.
Ingrid Wells (1:24:08.10) finished a little under a minute ahead of Allison Goldstein (1:25:03.51) for third.
