Sweat It Out 5k

This year YOU can Sweat Anywhere for Nick!  In 2023, we have TWO OPTIONS for you. We will have a "Live Race" on Saturday, June 3, 2023 and a "Virtual Event" from Saturday, May 13 through Saturday, June 3, 2023. We will also host our Kids Fun Run so the children have an opportunity to "Sweat For Nick"  We want you to be able to support the great work of NFED and Sweat For Nick in a way that works best for you!  The Duke family knows firsthand the precautions they need to take to keep Nick, who is immunocompromised, and our runners and walkers safe and healthy! 

 

START A TEAM!  During registration, you will be asked if you would like to "Join A Team".  You must have a minimum of 5 members to start a team.  Teams get a special discount!  Grab four or more friends and Sweat for Nick together!  This is an option for the Live Race and the Virtual Event! LARGEST TEAM AWARD!  We will be giving a special award to the team/group with the most members in the LIVE event.   

 

FOR THE LIVE EVENT -SATURDAY, JUNE 3rd:
Runners and walkers can walk or run on our beautiful USA Track and Field Certified course that starts and finishes in Old Woodlands Park on Saturday, June 3rd, 2023 at 7am.   You will loop through Nicks neighborhood and finish back where you started.  We will have volunteers along the way to guide and cheer you on!  There is one water stop at the 1.5 mile mark.  Food and beverages are available after the race at our Finish Line Celebration for registered participants only.  

 

PACKET PICK UP
Packet Pick Up will be open from 4 – 7 pm on Friday,June 2.
Join us at  Hunter Gatherer Hangar Brewery!  All participants (over the age of 21) will receive a FREE BEER when they show their race bib anytime during Packet Pick Up or on Race Day.  Thanks to our friends at Hunter Gatherer for their support! Hunter-Gatherer Brewery at the Hangar is located in the historic Curtis-Wright Hangar in Columbia, SC.

Columbia, SC 29205 ** Must register by April 27, 2023 to be guaranteed a shirt!  We are not able to hold shirts for participants who do not pick up at packet pick up or on race day.  To get your shirt, you must pick up during these times. We are unable to ship or to hold shirts for pick up after the race.

 

RACE DAY:
We will have Race Day Packet Pick Up or Race Day Registration. We will open our Race Day Registration table and our Packet Pick Up table at the race at 6:15am.

Please arrive at least 15 minutes before our start time at 7am.   Dogs on a leash are welcome!  Strollers are welcome!

 

POST-RACE Great food and water will be available at the finish line for registered participants only.

 

AWARDS Our awards ceremony will be held around 8:30am.  Awards for overall and age group winners will be announced at the ceremony.  Awards will be placed on a table for you to pick up during the ceremony.  Please be sure to pose for our photographer after you receive your award! All awards must be picked up during the award ceremony.  We do allow your friends to pick up awards for you if you are not able to attend.  We are unable to ship awards after the race!  We appreciate your understanding. Awards will be given to the TOP THREE Male/Female Winners, the TOP THREE Male/Female Masters Winners, and Age Group Winners (every 5 years) We will also be raffling off great prizes during our awards ceremony!  Only registered participants are eligible for these awards.

VIRTUAL RACE OPTION
Runners and Walkers can  "Sweat Anywhere " from May 13 - June 3,  2023. All participants in our virtual event will receive an awesome Sweat It Out 5k race shirt and custom Sweat It Out  award!  These will be mailed to you after the event ends.  Registration for the virtual event will close on May 26.
You will have the option to report your results through our results tab on our registration site. 
 
We hope that by making the race virtual, we will be able to attract even more participants across the United States who want to support our great cause!  Please share this race with all your friends!  Post your race pictures and results our event page! 
*******If you switch from the LIVE event to the VIRTUAL event after May 14, we will be unable to ship your packet due to our production schedule.  You will need to pick up your packet at packet pick up!   When posting on your social media, please tag our race and use these hashtags : #sweatanywherefornick  #sweatitout5k SHIRT GUARANTEE DEADLINE! We will do our best to make sure everyone gets their shirt and an award but there is no guarantee on either if you have not registered by April 27, 2023!  We will order extra for those who register after our deadline, but supplies and sizes are not guaranteed. We will keep an inventory of shirts on our registration site so you can see the sizes available as you register.

 

KIDS FUN RUN! Let your kids join the fun and "Sweat For Nick" at our Kids Fun Run!  This race starts at 8am and costs only $15.  This race is just for fun! You are welcome to run or walk with your child during this race.  It will be lead by an adult and is less than one mile.  It's a great way to get your kids involved with running!

 

Our Cause:  Ectodermal Dysplasia is a rare inherited genetic disorder that affects 1 in 17,000 individuals worldwide. It is a multisystem disorder that typically affects the hair, teeth, nails, sweat glands, and skin. The primary feature of HED is lack of or diminished sweating: hypohydrosis. The National Foundation of Ectodermal Dysplasia (NFED) is a nonprofit organization that helps and supports families affected by HED. They have been so helpful to the Duke family since the diagnosis of their son Nicholas. Their mission is to empower and connect people touched by HED through education,research, and support. Their vision is to be a recognized leader among health related nonprofit organizations and will be known for providing comprehensive services with loving care for individuals affected by HED. NFED will help individuals and families benefit from early diagnosis care, and will continue to be there throughout their lives. Ultimately, a cure will be found and NFED will be the force  behind this cure!
Our race has two goals: Raising awareness and raising funds. Please join us again this year for this worthy cause!
