Birkebeinerrennet

The Birkebeinerrennet is Norway’s legendary 54 km cross-country ski marathon, renowned for its historical roots and physical demands. Held annually in March, the race traces a high-mountain route from Rena to Lillehammer, climbing two summits in classic technique and requiring all skiers to carry a 3.5 kg backpack—symbolizing the infant heir to the Norwegian throne who was carried to safety in 1206.
