Sunday 28th 2014 will be remembered as the day when Dennis Kimetto was the first man in history to run a marathon in less than 2 hours and 3 minutes.
Berlin seems to draw world records like a magnet. Last year already, the world record was broken in Berlin by Wilson Kipsang who finished the marathon in 02:03:23.
The second place went to Emmanuel Mutai who also went faster than the previous world record. He crossed the finish line in 02:02:13. Abera Kuma took the third place in 02:05:56.
Dennis Kimetto knows the German Capital well. He had finished at the second place in the 2012 §race_link(1364) and also won that year the §race_link(2827) and §race_link(13032) during which he broke the world record for the 25 km. In this year’s race, he ran 48 s faster than his previous personal best set in Chicago last year.
In the women’s race, Tirfi Tsegaye topped the podium with a time of 2:20:18. The second and third places went to Feye Tadese (2:20:27) and Shalane Glanagan (2:21:14).
