About the event
The Engadin Skimarathon is a legendary 42 km freestyle cross-country skiing race held each March in Switzerland’s Upper Engadine valley, from Maloja to S-chanf. First staged in 1969, it is the largest ski marathon in Switzerland and the second largest in the world, drawing up to 14,000 participants annually. The high-altitude route starts at 1,820 meters and traverses frozen lakes, snowy meadows, and alpine forests, passing landmarks like Lake Silvaplana and the resort town of St. Moritz. The descent into Pontresina through the Stazerwald forest is a thrilling stretch both for racers and spectators. A range of events during marathon week—including the 21 km Half Marathon, 17 km Women's Race, and the Engadin Night Race—make the event inclusive and festive. As a founding member of the Worldloppet series, the Engadin Skimarathon combines elite-level racing with mass participation in a spectacular alpine setting.
