Events

Aquathlon events offer one of the easiest ways to find out whether multi-sport racing is for you. It is also a great way to add a bit of variety to your regular triathlon training. Each race consists of three legs, with two run segments either side of a swim.

Aquathlon: a multi-sport for those who like to travel light

Across the world, there are many events organised throughout the year over various distances and with different mixes of the two disciplines. Travelling to aquathlon events is a lot more convenient when comparing to triathlon, because there’s no need to bring your bike.

The ITU (International Triathlon Union) standardised the aquathlon distances into two most popular. In warm weather, where no wetsuit is required for the swim, the most common distance is 2.5 km run - 1000 m swim - 2.5 km run. A longer competition of 5 km run - 2000 m swim - 5 km run is also popular, especially in North America. In case the low water temperature makes a wetsuit necessary, competition starts with a swim and ends with a running segment (for example 1000m swim - 5 km run or 2000m swim - 10 km run).

If you’re considering triathlon as a potential future event but you don’t have a bike yet, or if swimming and running are your preferred activities, this may be the sport for you.
