The Malta Marathon and Half Marathon are held in accordance with the regulations of World Athletics. All times are recognised and accepted by prestigious marathons such as Boston, Berlin, Comrades, etc. The 2020 edition of the Malta Marathon was held after the 2019 edition was cancelled for the first time in 34 years due to an unprecedented storm. Since the inaugural Malta Marathon in 1986, the routes for the marathon and half marathon have been changed several times in order to provide faster roads and reduce traffic congestion.
