Since its inception in 2014, Ultra Paine® has been the first and only trail-running event of its kind in Torres del Paine National Park and Southern Patagonia, Chile. The event is held annually in September, with the exception of 2020 due to the pandemic. In 2016, the race route was established outside the park, but still close to it, showcasing a variety of landscapes with the backdrop of the main mountains of the park. This has attracted runners from 35 countries, all wanting to experience the trails of this remarkable location. The event is based in Puerto Natales, 250 km north of Punta Arenas, the capital of the region. It is situated in the extreme south of the American continent, at 51° south latitude, in the east of the Great Southern Ice Field and in the vicinity of Torres del Paine National Park, Providence of Última Esperanza (Last Hope), Magallanes and Chilean Antarctic Region. The race route offers distances from 7Km to 80Km (50 Miles), catering to all levels of participants, from those just starting out in trail running to experienced mountain runners.
