2015 Trail World Championships

31 Jan, 2014 (Fri)

Credit : photogone.net The International Association of Ultrarunners (IAU) has officially chosen the host venue for the 2015 Trail World Championships. France (FFA), and more specifically the Haute-Savoie, one of the nation’s most popular areas for trail running, will welcome this major event. The host race for the 2015 Trail World Championships will be the TECNICA MAXI-RACE, with a start/finish in Annecy-le-Vieux and a race course that circumnavigates Lake Annecy via the surrounding summits (between 82km and 87km, with approximately 5200m of vertical gain). A demanding but spectacular itinerary… With already more than 4700 runners registered for the 2014 edition, the TECNICA MAXI-RACE is one of the major mountain trail running races in France and in Europe. Our partners’ involvement (TECNICA, GATORADE, PEPSI…) as well as the commitment of local governments (Annecy-le-Vieux, the Haute-Savoie ….), the enthusiasm of the Rhône-Alpes Athletics League, as well as the number of FFA registered trail runners bear witness to the fantastic cooperation that convinced the sport’s international governing bodies to award the 2015 Trail World Championships to France via the TECNICA MAXI-RACE. If you are not part of the lucky 4700 that are already registered, it will be complicated but not impossible to participate in the race this year. One of the rare remaining options is to register as a 4-person relay team for the Team Race or individually for the XL-Race, the new 2-day race format that will provide you with the opportunity to run the course for next year’s World Championships! The XL Race, which also circumnavigates the lake, will allow you to prepare for a long-distance run, to enjoy the event as a family by running in the morning and enjoying a relaxing afternoon, or simply as a first step towards running the entire loop non-stop next year!

The 2015 Trail World Championships, France and the Lake Annecy MaXi-Race bid together

13 Nov, 2013 (Wed)

The announcement for the French bid to organize the 2015 Trail World Championships occurred on Saturday, November 2, 2013, in Annecy-le-Vieux, France. The race for the official bid is the MaXi-Race. Credit : photogone.net Last weekend IAU representative, Paco RICO, visited Annecy-le-Vieux and took a tour around Lake Annecy via the surrounding summits. Mr. Rico was accompanied by staff from the MaXi-Race (the trail running race in the Haute-Savoie area of the French Alps that takes place at the end of May, bringing together 5000 runners from all over Europe to Lake Annecy – www.maxi-race.org), to evaluate if the event team and the race course are suited to organize the 2015 Trail World Championships. Support from local governments (city hall, etc.), from the national athletics federation (FFA represented by Michel Huertas, Vice-President in charge of non-stadium competitions), the regional athletics league (represented by Mr. Ferrari, President), local athletics committees and clubs, and financial partners (Outdoor Sports Valley, Tecnica, Jean-Lain-Automobile, Gatorade, Dare2b…), made a great impression on the IAU representative. He was pleasantly surprised by the number of such important stakeholders in attendance, including the president of ITRA (Michel POLETTI), during the Saturday evening gathering that included viewing the race’s official film. An extraordinary ambassador to support this bid The Maxi-Race organizing team also took the opportunity to publicly confirm Maud Gaubert’s support. The 2011 World Champion will be the official ambassador for this bid and for the 2015 World Championships if they take place in France. This superlative ambassador has already demonstrated her commitment to the event, having run both the MaXi-Race and the Marathon-Race (the last 43 km). She shared her intention to run in 2015, and would be happy to represent France on the podium, or even to win another World Champion title. The final decision regarding the French and MaXi-Race’s bid will be delivered in January 2014, during the IAU Congress in Monaco.
