Course highlights

The Split Marathon is a certified race that connects the cities of Split and Solin, showcasing the region’s natural beauty and cultural heritage. Below is a detailed list of the main streets and cities the marathon route passes through, in order: **Cities:** - Split (start and finish) - Solin (ancient Salona) **Key Route Highlights:** - The marathon starts on the West Coast (Obala Hrvatskog narodnog preporoda) in Split and finishes at Riva, right next to Diocletian's Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. - The route includes a passage through the Hajduk Split football stadium (Poljud). - It covers the green oasis of Marjan Hill, the picturesque source of the Jadro River, and various coastal and urban areas. - The Split Marathon route passes by the ancient site of Salona, located in the modern town of Solin. Salona, known as Colonia Martia Iulia Salona, was once the capital of the Roman province of Dalmatia and a thriving city with around 60,000 inhabitants at its peak. Today, it is considered the most significant archaeological site in Croatia, featuring extensive ruins such as city walls, towers, public baths (thermae), a forum, a theater, an amphitheater that once held up to 18,000 spectators, and an aqueduct that supplied water both to Salona and Diocletian’s Palace in Split. By running the Split Marathon, participants experience a route that not only connects the historic cities of Split and Solin, but also brings them alongside the remarkable ruins of ancient Salona, immersing them in the rich cultural and historical heritage of the region.
