About the event

The Skopje Marathon is a highly anticipated running event that has gained global recognition since its revival in 2007. This prestigious event, which is now a proud member of AIMS, offers three challenging races - the marathon, half marathon, and a 5K humanitarian race. Every year, the event attracts a growing number of participants from all over the world. Notable past participants have included world record holder Wilson Kipsang from Kenya in 2014, the Estonian triplets Luik in 2017, and UK's Paula Radcliffe, who held the women's world record for an impressive 17 years.Aside from the thrill of the race, this year's marathon also serves as a qualifying event for the highly esteemed Abbott World Marathon Majors Wanda Age Group World Championships in 2021. This is an opportunity for runners to showcase their skills and compete at an international level.

While in Skopje, we highly recommend extending your stay to explore the natural wonders of the area, such as the picturesque Lake Matka. The city also offers a variety of tourist attractions, restaurants, and bars to discover. Attending the Skopje Marathon will undoubtedly be an unforgettable experience during your travels.

Course details

Course highlights

The Wizz Air Skopje Marathon begins from in front of the famous Macedonia Square, on Dimitrya Chupovski. It heads along old Stone Bridge and onto Boulevard Ilinden. The route then turns to the left and heads towards Mitropolit Teodosij Gologanov, where it heads back towards the start-finish line. Marathon-runners, however, go past the start-finish line and head towards Boulevard Jane Sandanski, before turning around and heading to the start-finish line to complete one lap of the circuit. The entire race-circuit is about 21.1km, which means that athletes need to take two-laps of the circuit to complete the marathon course.

it was a great organized half marathon event with record number of runners.

Many refreshments stations with water bottles / bananas / lemons / electrolytes etc. In general, great organized event.

--- The well-organized marathon in Skopje starts at the same time as the half marathon in front of the sports stadium, which is located far outside the city center. Since the streets are wide enough for the few starters, there is still no crowd. The course only marginally touches the old town, which is why the public's interest is limited. Because it is mostly a commute that the marathon runners have to cover twice, you can pass the three disc jockeys up to four times. In short: the route is flat and fast, but you should look for an atmospheric marathon elsewhere. A short report on the marathon can also be found here: www.Marathon-Tourist.de.

This year I ran my first half marathon, and I'm glad that happened on this event. The crowd was cheerful and so creative with the banners that you can not pass by without a smile. Great job!

I enjoyed because I could see the best parts of the city running those 21 km.

I run at Skopje marathon since the first time from the restarting the marathon in 2007, and since then, the marathon is growing and growing every year. The crowd is getting louder and more cheerful and the city is celebrating this day as a national holiday. The course is sooooo fast and flat. Although it can be pretty hot, there is a lot of refreshment stations so you just come mentally prepared for the humid weather and you will be great. A lot of elite runners come to visit and run, like Wilson Kipsang in 2014, and the triplets Luik from Estonia in 2017, and I got the chance to meet all of them and even do some running, which is so amazing and special. The city of Skopje is lovely and also the people are hospitable and it's easy to find accommodation in low price. If you have any questions, please ask me, I'll get to you as soon as I can to help you and don't hesitate to register, it's such a lovely experience.

If you run a marathon, you should know that you should run two laps, cause it's the same course for the half marathon, only marathon runners run it twice so the second lap you get to know the city better :)) The first lap is more crowded since we run with the half marathoners, but the second lap can be lonely which is fine with me because I am usually training on my own, so a lot of crowd is not my preference.

This was my best event out of all the 8 marathons I ran in the spring of 2019. A double loop on a flat terrain with crowds cheering and live bands entertaining all along the route. The race was well organized and the volunteers were ever so helpful and friendly. Plus Pic2Go provided runners lots of photographs for free. I will run this marathon again in a bit

While Skopje is definitely not among 10 most beautiful cities in the world, it is pleasant and green. Unexpectedly (for me, at least), there were many cheering spectators throughout most of the course. The race was organized quite well, with lots of water stations full of excellent volunteers, and again unexpectedly for me, many water stations had a sport drink and some fruits (bananas, oranges). Overall, I enjoyed this Marathon very much!

The Marathon route consists of two Half Marathon loops. While the first loop is crowded, most runners do the Half Marathon only, and the second loop would feel lonely if not the local spectators cheering Marathon runners quite passionately. So it was fun!
